DYEING FOR A PERFECT PAIR
Learn how to dye sock yarn to produce a matched pair of socks. The technique is to dye 100g of sock wool that has been previously knitted double so that when unravelled it will produce two balls of wool exactly the same which can then be knitted into matching socks.
Each student will need at least one 100g of sock wool pre-knitted double using approx. 5mm needles and approx. 50 sts. These can be bought ready made from DT crafts or the tutor can provide some with advanced notice. They will need to be pre-soaked in a solution of water and 25g citric acid per 100g wool. Pre-prepared yarn will have an additional cost of £7.50 per 100g, payable to the tutor on the day.
During the workshop, students will be using Milton food dyes, sponge brushes, and cling film, all of which will be supplied at an additional cost of 50p per person, payable at the workshop.
