LOVELY LUCET BRAIDS
A lucet is a braidmaking tool which produces a strong, square cord that is slightly springy. The braid is formed by making loop-like knots and requires no pre-measuring of threads. It can be used for decorative edgings, drawstrings, and lacing clothing; and you can add multiple colours or beads to make unusual jewellery. This workshop will take you from setting up to completing a basic lucet braid.
All the required yarn will be provided. Lucets will be supplied on loan to be used during the workshop and can be purchased afterwards for £10 each.
Graham hand makes wooden lucets using British and exotic hardwoods. Each one is different in design but they all function in the same way as the original pre 12th century models did. He learnt to lucet due to his participation in English Civil War re-enactment, where his hand knitted socks needed a tie to stop them falling down.
