HOOKING A WOOLLY SHEEP

DESCRIPTION

Explore and experiment with the rag rug making techniques of hooking with wool and make a badge or small picture.  Hooking is a wonderful technique for using all sorts of wool, from very fine yarn to unspun fleece.  The same technique can be used to make rugs from rags, and a wide range of tools and base fabrics will be available to experiment with.

REQUIREMENTS

Suitable materials will be provided at a cost of £3.00 per student.

TUTOR'S BACKGROUND

Sue lives in the Ystwyth Valley in mid-Wales, and runs a business specialising in the recycling of textiles to make exciting, new textiles.  Sue has been making rugs for 18 years and started her recycled textile business, Zalingai, in 1999.  She teaches rag rug making workshops at events such as Wonderwool Wales, The Wool & Willow Festival and other festivals, at the Welsh Quilt Museum in Lampeter and travels to teach groups on request.  Sue also makes hats and bags, wallhangings and accessories from recycled materials, often incorporating rag rug making into the designs.

Since August 2011 she has taken over the running of Rag Art.
